Beijing: After more than two years, China has allowed some Indian students to return to studies and for this necessary information has been sought from the students in the form. The Indian Embassy in China gave this information on Friday. The Indian Embassy said, “Following the meeting of Foreign Minister of India Dr. S Jaishankar with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on March 25, the Chinese side expressed its willingness to consider facilitating the return of Indian students to China and urged the students to Request to provide information by filling the form by 8th May.
India was pressuring China to allow the return of over 23,000 Indian students pursuing medical studies. In this effort, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar raised the issue during the recent visit of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi to New Delhi last month. Most of these students are studying medicine in various Chinese colleges.
China had promised India the ‘return’ of students in February
Earlier in February too, China had promised India to work for the “speedy return” of more than 23,000 Indian students stranded at home due to its strict visa restrictions over the Covid-19 pandemic. Along with this, China had assured India that there would be no discrimination against Indian students because resuming their studies is not a political issue.
China imposed travel restrictions to stop Corona
In fact, thousands of international students from India and other countries studying in Chinese universities have not been able to return to China since March last year due to travel restrictions imposed in the Chinese city of Wuhan to prevent the spread of the 2019 epidemic. The return of thousands of foreign students studying in China has become a contentious issue as Beijing, in pursuance of its strict zero-Covid policy, refused to grant them visas to rejoin their studies.
