However, India could not retain its top spot in the ICC ODI rankings, as Pakistan leapfrogged them to become the number-one ODI team in the world. Pakistan benefited from South Africa’s victory over Australia in the fifth and final ODI of their bilateral series on Saturday. South Africa won the match by 22 runs and the series by 3-2, which pushed Australia down to the third position in the ODI rankings. Pakistan, who had a dismal performance in the Asia Cup and finished at the bottom of the Super-4 stage, gained 0.230 rating points and moved to the first position with 114.889 rating points. India, which had a rating of 115.000 before the Asia Cup, lost 0.341 rating points and slipped to the second position with 114.659 rating points.
India will have a chance to reclaim its top spot in the ODI rankings when they host Australia for a three-match ODI series from September 22 to September 27. This will be the last ODI series for both teams before they participate in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, which will start on October 5 in India. The series will be crucial for both teams to fine-tune their preparations and finalize their combinations for the mega event. India and Australia will also face each other in Chennai on October 8 in their first match of the World Cup.
The first ODI between India and Australia will be played on Friday, September 22 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The second ODI will be played on Sunday, September 24 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday, September 27 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium Ground B, Rajkot. All three matches will start at 1:30 PM IST.
