Islamabad: The condition in which economic condition of Pakistan has reached is not hidden from anyone. Somehow the people of Pakistan are living in conditions that are getting worse and worse in the country. Where on the one hand it is difficult to get food and drink easily, on the other hand, the political condition of the country is also going down the drain. In such a situation, now the news is also coming that martial law may be imposed in Pakistan. In fact, a few days ago, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Foreign Minister of the Government of Pakistan, expressed apprehension about this.
What is martial law
When martial law is implemented, the control of the country and its police and law and order is completely handed over to the army. It is not necessary that it should be applicable to the whole country. This can be applied in any part of the country. The rights of citizens are most affected by the implementation of these laws. Apart from this, mainly the meetings of political parties are stopped. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of the arrest of the leaders.
Along with this, in martial law, the army can put anyone in jail at any time. In the army court, the judge can call anyone by giving notice. The citizens who oppose this are presented in the military court, they are also prosecuted.
History of martial law
Martial law has been in force in Pakistan for a long time. During the time of Ayub Khan, when political instability and communal tension started increasing in Pakistan, the army took power into its own hands. For the first time in Pakistan, on 7 October 1958, the army took command.
Unsuccessful attempts at martial law implemented in Pakistan
In the history of Pakistan, there were many coup attempts in 1951 which were unsuccessful. In 1951, there was the Rawalpindi Conspiracy, led by Major General Akbar Khan, involving leftist activists and sympathetic officers against the government of Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan.
After this, in 1980, Major General Tajammul Hussain Malik exposed and foiled the conspiracy to assassinate Zia-ul-Haq on Pakistan Day, March 23, 1980.
In 1995, a coup attempt against the government of Benazir Bhutto led by Major General Zahirul Islam Abbasi, backed by Islamic fundamentalists, failed.
When was martial law first imposed in Pakistan?
Martial law was imposed for the first time during the 1958 war in Pakistan, which was imposed by then President Iskander Mirza on 7 October. Four years after this, i.e. in the year 1962, a new document of the constitution was implemented. But after Ayub Khan became the President of Pakistan, he took an important decision. In 1969, he canceled the constitution implemented in 1962 and again declared martial law there.
After this, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto imposed martial law here for the third time, which was imposed after the Bangladesh Liberation War. Then on July 5, 1977, it was imposed by General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. After this, on October 12, 1999, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was dissolved, and even then the army once again took control. But it was not martial law.
