Whether you’re applying for a new Aadhaar or updating details like your name, address, or photograph, you’ll now need to submit a more comprehensive set of documents to meet the latest requirements.

What’s New in the Aadhaar Update Process?

  • Stricter Documentation: To ensure accuracy and prevent misuse, UIDAI now requires four key documents for both new enrolments and updates:
  • Identity Certificate
  • Residential Certificate
  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Relationship (for children and dependents)
  • One Person, One Aadhaar: If an individual is found to have more than one Aadhaar number, only the first issued Aadhaar will be considered valid. All subsequent Aadhaar numbers will be cancelled.

  • Passport
  • PAN card (including e-PAN)
  • Voter ID card
  • Driving license
  • Photo ID issued by government or government undertakings
  • NREGA job card
  • Pensioner ID card
  • Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) / Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) card
  • Transgender ID card

2. Birth Certificate (Any one of the following)

  • School mark sheet with date of birth
  • Passport
  • Pension document mentioning date of birth
  • Certificate from state or central government with date of birth

3. Address Proof (Residential Certificate) (Any one of the following)

  • Recent electricity, water, gas, or landline bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Bank passbook or statement
  • Ration card
  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • Registered rent agreement
  • Pension document
  • Residential certificate issued by state/central government

4. Proof of Relationship (For children/dependents)

  • Birth certificate mentioning parent’s name
  • Passport showing family relationship
  • Any government document establishing relationship

  • Indian citizens residing abroad (NRIs)
  • Children above five years of age

How to Update Aadhaar Online for Free

UIDAI has extended the facility for free online Aadhaar updates till June 14, 2026. Here’s how you can update your Aadhaar:

  1. Create an account and log in to the myAadhaar portal.

  3. Complete biometric verification or use the One-Time Password (OTOP) facility as prompted.
