New Delhi: In today’s time everyone has a mobile phone. We are doing all kinds of work from mobile phone calls to shopping. With the help of mobile phones, we can talk to our relatives, friends, or any contacts saved on the phone at any time sitting at our home or anywhere.

But do you know when and where was the first mobile call made in the world? If not, then in today’s news we are going to tell you about it.

World’s first mobile call
About 50 years ago, on 3 April 1973, on this day, the first call was made from most mobile phones. This phone was used by American engineer Martin Cooper in New York. Martin Cooper was an engineer at the Motorola company and had been working on wireless mobile technology for a long time. Martin called his rival engineer Joel Engel, who worked at Bell Labs, from Street in New York.

The first mobile phone was so heavy!
The model name of the mobile phone Martin was talking to was DYNATAC 800XI. It weighed about 1.1 kg and a battery was installed to power it. This handheld phone was completely wireless and could be carried anywhere on the roof, road, bus, or train. It took Martin three months to prepare this mobile prototype.

Cell phones came to the general public after 10 years
The mobile phone was ready in 1973 but it took 10 years to reach the common people. After many types of research and changes, the mobile phone was launched in the market in 1983 for the general public. It was smaller and lighter than its prototype model. Its weight was 790 grams and its length was 10 inches. The company had spent Rs 800 crore to develop the original model.

A battery was used to power it. Because of this, it was also called the first ‘cell phone’. The funny thing is that it could be used for only 35 minutes after charging for 10 hours, but despite this, it was priced at $ 3,990. As of today, its cost is around $10,000, and its value in Indian currency is more than Rs.8 lakh.

Mobile phone journey in India
The story of the first use of mobile phones in India is also interesting. The first call from a mobile phone in India was made on 31 July 1995. This call took place between the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu and Union Telecom Minister Sukh Ram. This call was connected from the Reuters Building in West Bengal to Delhi Sanchar Bhawan. Let us tell you that Modi Telstra Mobilenet started the mobile phone service in India. This service was first started in Kolkata.
