Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has started a big initiative for the prisoners in jail. Want to tell you that the government has decided to give personal loans up to Rs 50,000 to the inmates of the jail. The prisoners of the state will get this loan in return for the work done in the jail.
It is to be known that Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank will charge 7 percent interest for the loan. Also, it is going to start as a pilot project at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune. According to the Home Minister, about 1055 prisoners will get the benefit of this scheme.
It is noteworthy that this type of loan is called the Khavati loan and the order on this scheme has been issued on Tuesday. Also, there will be no need for a ‘guarantor’ to take it. It will be distributed on the basis of individual bonds.
It should be noted that behind this decision, the Maharashtra government believes, most of the prisoners serving long sentences are the main members of their families. In such a situation, due to his being in jail, the financial condition of the family worsens. This is the reason why such prisoners will be provided loans for the needs of their families.
