New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) made a big announcement on Friday regarding Corona. WHO said that COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency. This decision has been taken in the 15th meeting of the Emergency Committee. There was a time when a ‘lockdown’ was imposed in different countries of the world at one time due to this epidemic, which affected the economies worldwide and killed at least 7 million people.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros said, yesterday the Emergency Committee met for the 15th time. In this, I have been asked to declare that the world is out of the purview of the global health emergency of Covid-19. I have accepted his advice.

In the context of the recent spurt in cases of infection in South East Asia and West Asia, the WHO said that even though the emergency phase is over, the pandemic is not over. The UN health agency said that thousands of people are still dying from the infection every week around the world.

When the United Nations health agency first declared the novel coronavirus an international emergency on January 30, 2020, it was not named COVID-19 and did not have a widespread outbreak outside China. More than three years later, the virus has caused an estimated 764 million cases of infection globally and nearly five billion people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The public health emergency declaration for COVID-19 in the US is set to expire on May 11, when the comprehensive measures adopted to support the response to the pandemic, including vaccine imperatives, expire. Several other countries, including Germany, France, and Britain, last year removed many of their provisions against the pandemic. The WHO decided on Friday to lower its highest level of alert after an expert group meeting on Thursday
