The long-anticipated wait for the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is nearing its conclusion, as the region prepares to script a new chapter in India’s infrastructure history. The upcoming ceremony will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurate the airport’s cargo terminal, a vital component for regional trade. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) center. This center is designed to provide comprehensive aircraft maintenance services, a move that aims to establish Uttar Pradesh as a central hub for the aviation industry.
While the inauguration signifies a major step forward, scheduled flight operations will follow a strategic, phased rollout rather than commencing immediately. Following the formal ceremony, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a massive public gathering. To accommodate the expected 200,000 attendees, authorities have erected three expansive marquees at the site, reflecting the immense public interest in the project.
In the first phase of operations, the airport will focus exclusively on domestic and cargo traffic. For the time being, these flight movements will be limited to daylight hours, with the introduction of international routes expected at a later stage. The initial flight network is robust, connecting Jewar to key destinations including Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Ayodhya.
The operational plan proposes approximately 65 flights per day, though the technical capacity of the runway is significantly higher, capable of supporting 30 takeoffs and landings per hour. Leading carriers IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Airlines have been confirmed as the primary service providers for this initial launch phase. This development is expected to significantly ease the pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport while stimulating economic growth across western Uttar Pradesh.
