New Delhi: The Foreign Ministry of India (MEA) has called the election in Pakistan-authorized Gilgit-Baltistan legally illegal. India says that this area is occupied by the Pakistani army, so all attempts by Pakistan to conduct elections are illegal. Significantly, the date of the election has been fixed on behalf of Pakistan in Gilgit-Baltistan. Elections have been announced on 15 November.
Significantly, on Wednesday, India has raised the issue of human rights abuses in the areas of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations Human Rights Council. India has said that Pakistan is wearing a different mask on human rights, behind which it is hiding its actions.
The President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, on Wednesday approved the bill to hold assembly elections in Gilgit and Baltistan. According to the Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune, three major political parties, Imran’s PTI, Nawaz Sharif’s PML N and Bilawal’s Pakistan People’s Party, will participate in this assembly election in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly will have 33 seats and out of this three will be reserved for technocrats and 6 women. Elections will be held only on the remaining 24 seats.
Even though Nawaz Sharif’s party is also taking part in the elections, but Maryam Nawaz has criticized it. Criticizing the Imran government, he said that political decisions should be made in Parliament and not in the army headquarters. Maryam gave this response during a conversation with reporters. She had reached the court of Islamabad in connection with a property dispute.
