New Delhi: In the wake of the corona virus epidemic, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns, giving relief to taxpayers. The deadline for individual taxpayers to file income tax returns for the financial year 2019-20 has been extended to December 31, 2020. The finance ministry announced this on Saturday.
The last date for these taxpayers is January 31
In this context, the Ministry said that for the taxpayers whose accounts need to be audited, the deadline for filing ITR has been extended by two months to January 31, 2021. Earlier in May, the government had extended the deadline for filing ITR for the financial year 2019-20 from July 31 to November 30, giving relief to the taxpayers in compliance.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement that the deadline for filing income tax returns for taxpayers, which was 31 July 2020 before the extension, has been extended to 31 December 2020. Similarly, taxpayers whose accounts need to be audited and whose deadline was earlier 31st October 2020, can now file ITR till 31st January 2021. The CBDT said the deadline has been extended to give taxpayers more time to file ITRs.
