Maihar: Two men who worked for a trust that runs a famous temple in Maihar town of Satna district in Madhya Pradesh have been arrested for raping and brutalizing a 12-year-old girl on Thursday, police said on Friday. The accused allegedly took the girl to a secluded place and sexually assaulted her, biting her and inserting a hard object in her private parts, an official said.

The girl was rushed to a hospital in Rewa for better medical care, police said. She had injuries and bleeding due to the assault, SP Ashutosh Gupta said. He said the doctors treating her said her condition was ‘okay’ at the moment. He added that the confirmation of the insertion of a hard object can be done only after the medical report is received.

“We are taking legal action against the accused,” Gupta said.

The accused, identified as Ravindra Kumar Ravi and Atul Bhadoliya, both 30, were booked under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act for rape, gang rape, kidnapping, and causing hurt. They were sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court on Friday.

The trust that manages the Maa Sharda Devi Mandir in Maihar issued a statement saying that the accused were fired from their jobs after the case was registered against them. The statement said that their heinous act had damaged the reputation of the temple.
