Indore: A sensational twist has emerged in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, as police confirm that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has confessed to orchestrating his killing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The case, which has gripped the nation, has revealed a web of deceit, betrayal, and meticulous planning.
Murder Planned Before Marriage, Say Police
Investigators now believe the plot to kill Raja may have been hatched even before his wedding to Sonam on May 11, 2025. According to police, Sonam was in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha, an employee at her family’s business, and together they conspired to eliminate Raja so they could be together.
Execution of the Crime
The couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya just days after their wedding. On May 23, both went missing. Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Sohra, East Khasi Hills, with severe head injuries believed to have been inflicted by the hired killers. Police say Sonam paid Kushwaha ₹50,000 to arrange for three accomplices Vishal Singh Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput who tracked the couple’s movements and executed the murder during a trek in Cherrapunji.
The murder unfolded over nine hours, with the assailants attacking Raja and throwing his body into the gorge. Sonam attempted to cover up the crime by claiming a robbery gone wrong, but police quickly found inconsistencies in her story.
Confessions and Arrests
Sonam reportedly confessed to her involvement during police interrogation, particularly when confronted with Kushwaha. All five accused, including Sonam and the three hired killers, are now in custody. Meghalaya Police, working with teams from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, arrested the suspects from multiple states as part of a coordinated operation.
Motive and Aftermath
Police allege that Sonam intended to live as a widow for a period before convincing her family to allow her to marry Kushwaha, the alleged mastermind. Kushwaha, meanwhile, was seen at Sonam’s family home during the search for the couple, further fueling suspicions about his involvement.
Investigation Ongoing
While Sonam’s confession and the arrests mark a significant breakthrough, police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and more details may emerge as they piece together the full sequence of events. Authorities are now focusing on tying up loose ends and preparing the case for court proceedings.
