Earlier, in an emergency meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Oli, it was decided to recommend the President to dissolve the House of Representatives of Parliament. The elected House of Representatives or the lower house of Parliament in the year 2017 has 275 members. The upper house is the National Assembly. The move has been taken at a time when internal discord in the ruling party Nepal Communist Party (NCP) reached its peak. The clash between the two factions of the party has been going on for months. While one section is headed by 68-year-old Oli, the other faction is headed by Prachanda, the working president of the party and former Prime Minister.
