New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is making significant changes to the syllabus for Classes 3 and 6 under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). These revisions align with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) recommendations and will take effect in the upcoming academic year.
Key Points:
- Syllabus Overhaul: NCERT has notified CBSE about releasing revised syllabi for Classes 3 and 6. These updates aim to enhance learning experiences and align with the evolving educational landscape.
- Bridge Course for Class 6: To facilitate a seamless transition, NCERT is developing a bridge course for Class 6 students. This course will introduce them to new pedagogical practices and areas of study.
- Guidelines for Class 3: Concise guidelines for Class 3 will accompany the new syllabus. These guidelines will empower educators to implement effective teaching methods.
- Expanded Areas of Study: The revamped syllabi will introduce students to diverse subjects, including arts, physical education, vocational studies, and “The World Around Us” for Class 3.
- Books Availability: While nine books for Classes 3 and 6 are available, the remaining eight will be released soon. Notably, this week, NCERT launched new English and Hindi books for the Class 6 mid-academic session.
- CBSE’s Role: CBSE schools are advised to adopt the new syllabi and textbooks for Classes 3 and 6. Additionally, CBSE will organize capacity-building programs for school heads and teachers to align with the new teaching-learning perspectives envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- NCF Revisions: After 18 years, the NCF underwent a revision last year. The changes emphasize multilingualism, art-integrated education, experiential learning, and pedagogical plans.
NCERT’s proactive approach aims to enhance the quality of education, ensuring that students receive a holistic and relevant learning experience. Schools are encouraged to embrace these updates and prepare students for a dynamic future.
