Mumbai: Mumbai Police has arrested Vikas Khanchandani, CEO of Republic TV, in an alleged fake TRP case. So far 13 people have been arrested in this case. Mumbai Police had registered an FIR on October 6 regarding this fake TRP racket following a complaint by Nitin Devkar, an officer of Hansa Research. The Mumbai Police had also filed a charge sheet in this alleged TRP scam in a court here in November.
Explain that the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the police is investigating the alleged Television Rating Point (TRP) scam. Vikas Khanchandani has been questioned many times before in this case. Before Vikas Khanchandani, senior journalist and editor-in-chief of the channel Arnab Goswami was also arrested by Mumbai Police in an old case. However, he was later granted bail by the court.
The fake TRP scam came to light when the rating agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) lodged a complaint that some TV channels were manipulating the TRP figures.

Bark had lodged this complaint through Hansa Research Group. Significantly, Hansa was given the responsibility to install a measuring instrument to obtain viewership data on how many viewers are watching which channel and for how long.
