Mumbai: Cameron Green’s unbeaten fiery century innings after the brilliant bowling of Akash Madhwal (four wickets for 37 runs) helped Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets with 12 balls to spare in the Indian Premier League T20 match here on Sunday. Maintained my hopes of reaching Hyderabad and scored 200 runs for five wickets with Mayank Agarwal’s 83-run innings for the opening wicket and a 140-run partnership in 83 balls with Vivrant Sharma (69).
Mumbai achieved the target after losing two wickets in 18 overs. With this win, Mumbai has 16 points from 14 matches and will have to wait for the result of the match to be played between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the playoff ticket. RCB will have to win at any cost to reach the playoffs.
Green hit eight fours and as many sixes in his 47-ball unbeaten innings, along with captain Rohit Sharma (56 off 37 balls) 128 off 65 balls for the second wicket and Suryakumar Yadav (25 not out off 16 balls) for the second wicket. Along with the unbroken partnership of 53 runs in 30 balls for the third wicket. Rohit hit eight fours and a six in his innings while Suryakumar Yadav hit four fours. For Hyderabad, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/26 in four overs) could make an impact with the ball.
Earlier, Mayank hit eight fours and four sixes in his 46-ball innings, while Vivrant hit nine fours and two sixes in his 47-ball innings. Madhwal took the wicket of both of them. Chasing the target, Ishan Kishan (14 runs in 12 balls) showed an aggressive attitude by hitting a six and a four against Nitish Reddy in the second over but he was caught by Harry Brook in the next over off Bhuvneshwar. After hitting a four off the very first ball, Cameron Green hit Nitish Reddy for a six in the fifth over, Karthik Tyagi for a six in the sixth over, and Mayank Dagar for two sixes in the seventh over.
In an attempt to improve the net run rate, Rohit hit a six off Vivrant’s no-ball in the ninth over. Green completed his team’s century with a single run after completing his half-century in 20 balls with a six in the same over. Rohit hit a hat-trick four in the next over against Umran Malik. Green completed the century partnership with Rohit in just 51 balls with one run after hitting a four in the 11th over. In the next over, Rohit completed his half-century in 31 balls with a four off Tyagi. In the same over, Sanveer dropped a simple catch of Rohit.
After taking two sixes from Green in the 13th over, Nitish Reddy took a brilliant catch of Rohit by leaping in the air off Dagar in the next over. Against Umran Malik, who came to bowl in the sixteenth over, Green hit a four and a six and Suryakumar scored 20 runs with two fours and brought Mumbai close to victory. Green brought up his maiden IPL hundred with a single off the last ball of the 18th over to take his side to a memorable win. After winning the toss and electing to field, the Mumbai bowlers did not allow them to score runs in the first two overs.
Mayank opened up against Jason Behrendorff and Madhwal with two fours each in the third and fifth overs. Vivrant completed the same feat in the fourth and sixth overs against Chris Jordan (one wicket for 42 runs) and Piyush Chawla and completed a half-century partnership in the powerplay for the first wicket. During this, Suryakumar Yadav missed an easy chance to run out Mayank in the fifth over. Vivrant hit the first six of the match against Piyush in the eighth over. He completed his first half-century in the IPL by taking one run against Jordan in the 10th over after hitting fours in consecutive balls. Mayank hit a four against Kartikeya in the 11th over to complete the team’s century.
He hit a six in the 13th over against Behrendorff and a six in the 14th over against Madhwal. However, Madhwal gave Mumbai their first breakthrough in the same over by dismissing Vivrant. Heinrich Klaasen (18 runs in 13 balls), running in a great rhythm, opened the account with a four as soon as he came to the crease. Mayank then increased the team’s run rate by hitting sixes against Kartikeya and Piyush. He became Madhwal’s second victim in the 17th over. After his dismissal, the Hyderabad batsmen could not score fast runs.
While Jordan removed Glenn Phillips (one run in four balls) in the next over, Madhwal bowled Klaasen and Harry Brook (0) in successive balls to check Sunrisers’ run rate. The team could score only 18 runs from the 17th to the 19th over. In the last over, captain Aiden Markram (13 not out) hit a six to reach the team’s score of 200 runs.
