Mumbai: The country’s longest Expressway Mumbai-Delhi Expressway is getting ready fast. This expressway between the two capitals will reduce the travel time from about 24 hours to 12-13 hours. This will also reduce the road distance between the two metros by 130 km.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be connected to the country’s largest container port JNPT. By the way, the target is to prepare most of the expressway by March 2023. This has been confirmed by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. However, its construction till the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai will take some more time. By the way, there is a plan to connect this highway till Nariman Point in Mumbai.

Rs 98,233 crore cost
The work on the Delhi-Mumbai 8-lane Greenfield Expressway at a cost of Rs 98,233 crore began on 9 March 2019. It was targeted to be completed by March 2023. According to a senior NHAI official, the target for completion has now been set for March 2024. Construction was delayed due to constraints in land acquisition.

Delhi-Vadodara will be ready by December
According to NHAI, the Delhi-Vadodara section will be ready by the end of December, except for the section falling in Gujarat’s Dahod district. The Delhi-Vadodara section of over 903 km is almost ready. Work is in full swing in Gujarat even beyond Vadodara. In Maharashtra too, the project has been delayed due to non-receipt of NOC from the state government on time. Similarly, in Dahod, a tribal area of Gujarat, a section of the project remained stuck due to the matter going to court. Now the obstruction has been removed.

120 will be the speed
Will be able to drive at a speed of 120 km per hour on the expressway. This expressway will also have one lane for electric vehicles. This is happening for the first time in India. The expressway currently has 8 lanes, but 4 more lanes can be added later.

65 paise per km toll
There will be tolls at the exit, not at the time of entering the highway. You will have to pay only that much toll for the kms you drive on the highway. It was told that at present the minimum toll on the Delhi-Vadodara Expressway will be 0.65 paise per kilometer, which is very less as compared to other roads in the country. Mini buses will be charged Rs 1.05, buses and trucks Rs 2.20, heavy machinery like JCB Rs 3.45 and other heavy vehicles Rs 4.20.

First stretchable road
This will be the country’s first stretchable road prepared for the next 50 years with German technology. There will be CCTV cameras every 500 meters on the road. The highway is being made elevated. There will be no speed breakers on the entire highway. Special arrangements have been made to stop the entry of animals.

Connectivity will increase from these cities
The expressway passes through 6 states Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. In these, connectivity will increase from economic cities like Jaipur, Kishangarh, Ajmer, Kota, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat to Virar and Mumbai.
