London: The Delta variant of the Coronavirus has caused havoc in Britain. During the last week, 35,204 people have been found infected with the delta variant of Corona. With this, the total number of infected with this variant of the virus has gone up to 1,11,157. Releasing weekly figures on Friday, officials said that in a week, the cases of Delta variants saw an increase of up to 46 percent. Let us tell you that the delta form of coronavirus was first identified in India.
Public Health England (PHE) said that 42 of the total cases were of the Delta AY.1 subtype, also known as Delta Plus, and it is expected to spread in some areas. PHE said that in the genome sequencing of the virus done across the UK, about 95 cases are of delta variants. However, the number of patients admitted to the hospital after both doses of the corona vaccine is very less.
Avoidance of vaccination
Dr. Jenny Harris, chief executive of the UK’s Health Protection Agency, said, ‘The data indicates that with a successful vaccination campaign, we have started to break the link between cases and hospitalization. This is very encouraging news, but we cannot be careless. Two doses of the vaccine are far more effective against Covid-19 than a single dose. So make sure you come to take the second dose as soon as it is called for. The vaccine provides excellent protection but does not provide complete protection. That is why it is necessary that caution should be taken.
Now the danger of lambda variants
Meanwhile, PHE said that it has added the lambda variant (C.37) of the virus to the test list on Wednesday, due to its international expansion and several changes such as L452Q and F490S. On June 14, the World Health Organization had named the lambda form as a ‘variant of interest’. So far six cases of infection with lambda form have been reported in Britain and all of them are related to foreign travel. It was first identified in Peru and so far it has been found in 26 countries.
