New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Wednesday said that it is not mandatory to wear masks during air travel, but they should use them despite the decreasing number of coronavirus cases. Till now, the use of masks was mandatory while traveling on flights.

In a communication issued to the airline, the ministry said the decision has been taken in line with the government’s policy of a graded approach to COVID-19 management response. It states, “From now on these flights may only mention that in view of the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, all passengers should be given priority to wear masks/face covers.

According to the latest official data, the number of patients under treatment for coronavirus infection in the country has come down to 7,561, which is 0.02 percent of the total cases. At the same time, the national rate of recovery of patients is 98.79 percent. A total of 4,41,28,580 people have become infection free in the country so far, while the death rate from Covid-19 is 1.19 percent.
