Boston: Microsoft has revealed that state-backed Russian and North Korean hackers have attempted to steal valuable data from leading pharmaceutical companies and vaccine researchers. It said in a blog on Friday that most of the attacks carried out in recent months have failed.
The technology company, however, did not say how many attacks were successful or how serious the attacks were. The U.S. government announced in July that Chinese state-backed hackers had been targeting vaccine makers.
Microsoft said most of the installations targeted by the hackers were directly involved in Covid-19 vaccine and drug research work in Canada, France, India, South Korea and the United States.
The company has identified a state-backed hacker group as “fancy beers” who are being described as Russian military agents. The other two have been identified as North Korea’s Lazarus Group and Cerium.
