Karachi: There has been a big explosion in Karachi, Pakistan. It is being told that a massive explosion took place this afternoon at Shershah Paracha Chowk in Karachi. According to Pak media, so far at least 12 people have died and many have been injured in this blast.

According to the report of Geo News, rescue operation is going on at the spot after the blast and the death toll could be higher. Dr. Sabir Memon, head of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Hospital Trauma Centre, confirmed to Geo News that 12 people were killed in the blast. He also confirmed that four of the injured are in critical condition.

The report quoted police as saying that the blast occurred in a gas pipeline running through a drain located in the area, causing heavy damage to the private bank building on the drain. Rescuers who reached the spot rushed the injured to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) has reached the blast site. Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area. After the police complete the search operation, the BDU will be able to start the investigation into the cause of the blast.
