Nairobi (Kenya): The International Migration Organization (IOM) said that 34 migrants died after a boat capsized in the offshore area of Djibouti, an East African country. The organization’s regional director Mohammed Abdikar said on Twitter on Monday that the migrants were carrying smugglers. He did not provide further details of the case.
However, it is not immediately clear which migrants who died from the drowning were from which country, but many people try to take a voyage from Ethiopia and Somalia. They keep trying to move to other places due to poverty and other difficulties.
They first reach Yemen and then in the countries belonging to the Persian Gulf. In March, at least 20 migrants were killed while on their way to Djibouti from Yemen when smugglers threw them into the sea.
