MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus, which met with an accident in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, was more than ten years old and its fitness certificate was about to expire in the next ten days. . It is known that on Monday, an MSRTC bus went out of control and fell into the Narmada river after breaking the railing of the bridge at Khalghat in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, killing 12 passengers on it.
MSRTC officials said that the bus had left for Amalner in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra from Indore city of Madhya Pradesh at 7.30 am on Monday. However, it fell into the Narmada river, breaking the guardrail of a bridge on National Highway No. 3 (Agra-Mumbai Road) near the border of the Dhar and Khargone districts. According to a senior RTO official, the bus was registered at Nagpur Rural Regional Transport Office on June 12, 2012, and its fitness certificate was due to expire on July 27, 2022. The fitness certificate shows whether the vehicle is roadworthy or not.
According to the official, the pollution control certificate and insurance of the bus were valid. The MSRTC said that the bus was being driven by Chandrakant Eknath Patil and Prakash Shravan Choudhary was its conductor.
