New Delhi: Iran has now expelled the French ambassador for condemning the objectionable cartoon of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Called on Wednesday. On the same matter, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian tweeted that, in publishing the cartoon, a French publication has committed a derogatory and indecent act against religious and political authority, which cannot be tolerated.
It is to be known that, in the past 2015, two terrorists of Al-Qaeda, born in France, attacked the office of the newspaper and mercilessly killed 12 cartoonists together with some such cartoons. Charlie Hebdo has been attacked several times over the years. But now once again the magazine has published an objectionable cartoon of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in its January edition. Because of this Iran has now expressed its protest by summoning the French ambassador.
The magazine has a long history of publishing vulgar cartoons mocking Islamists, which critics say are deeply insulting to Muslims. Two French-born al-Qaida extremists attacked the newspaper’s office in 2015, killing 12 cartoonists, and it has been the target of other attacks over the years.
Its latest issue features the winners of a recent cartoon contest in which entrants were asked to draw the most offensive caricatures of Khamenei, who has held Iran’s highest office since 1989. The contest was billed as a show of support for anti-government protests rocking Iran.
