Jaipur: Lumpy skin disease infection has now spread almost all over Rajasthan. So far, about 30 thousand cows have died in Rajasthan due to lumpy skin disease. At the same time, 7 lakh animals have been caught in its infection. Lumpy skin has spread in 30 out of 33 districts of Rajasthan. Now to combat this disease, vaccination has been started in Rajasthan on a war footing. 8 lakh got-pox vaccine doses have been ordered in Rajasthan. To prevent virus infection in 1.39 crore livestock in Rajasthan, preparations are being made to buy a total of 41 lakh got-pox vaccine doses.

According to the data released by the Animal Husbandry Department, the number of animals infected with lumpy skin virus has crossed seven lakhs in 30 districts of Rajasthan. The most infected animals have come to the fore in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s home district Jodhpur. So far 89043 animals have been found infected with lumpy skin virus in Jodhpur. In Jodhpur, 2918 animals have also died due to its infection. At the same time, Sriganganagar district is in the second position with the number of infected animals at 76980. Sriganganagar district has reported maximum deaths due to lumpy skin virus. So far 4218 infected animals have died in the Ganganagar district.

Now the scope of infection is spreading in East Rajasthan.
Most infected animals have come to the fore in the border districts. 89043 in Jodhpur district, 78979 in Barmer, 35332 in Jaisalmer, 42438 in Jalore, 60250 in Bikaner, 76980 in Sri Ganganagar, 54299 in Hanumangarh, 42081 in Pali, 15551 in Sirohi, 49977 in Churu, 22435 in Ajmer and 55772 in Nagaur. Got infected with the virus. Along with the border districts, cases of lumpy skin virus are being reported in almost all the districts of Rajasthan. However, the virus has just entered East Rajasthan. Due to this, the number of infected animals is not high. But now this virus is showing its effect in all the districts of East Rajasthan.

The infection spread rapidly in the border districts earlier
Animal Husbandry Department Secretary PC Kishan told that earlier the infection spread rapidly in the border districts. The death rate was highest then. But now in the border districts, there has been a decline of eighty to ninety percent in the figures of animal deaths. The department believes that the infection of lumpy skin disease is more effective in the early stages. Then due to less effect of the virus, it is not causing much harm to the animals. The state government has now started the vaccination campaign on a war footing as per the central guidelines. Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria said that the State Government has entrusted the Animal Husbandry Department as well as the Animal Husbandry Department and the Rajasthan Co-operative Dairy Federation to buy the Got-pox vaccine.

What is Lumpy skin disease?

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an infectious disease caused by the Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) of the genus Capripoxvirus, its strain ‘Neethling’ was first to be isolated in South Africa. The disease is mainly characterized by the sudden appearance of fever and skin lesions in several animals in the herd. It leads to a decrease in milk and meat production, Abortions, majorly damage of skins and hides as well as death or direct losses like a culling of sick cattle. This is a major setback for the livelihoods of poor smallholders and backyard farmers.
