New Delhi: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Saturday that the Law Commission has received more than one crore suggestions regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said, ‘So far we have received more than one crore suggestions. A decision will be taken after discussing these suggestions. Whatever step will be taken, everyone will be informed. Along with this, he said that the government is seeking suggestions on UCC from every section of the country, every person.
Explain that the extended deadline for giving suggestions to the Law Commission on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) ended on Friday. The Commission on Friday decided not to extend the deadline for submission of suggestions from the public on UCC.
More than 50 lakh suggestions were received till July 13
Earlier, the Law Commission had received over 50 lakh suggestions on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code till July 13, but the number of responses received from various organizations and individuals was not yet available. After this, the Law Commission sought feedback from interested individuals, institutions, or organizations on this issue till July 28, 2023, extending the deadline.
The Law Commission had extended the time on July 14, saying, “Considering the overwhelming response from the public on the subject of Uniform Civil Code and several requests received from various quarters regarding extension of time for submission of their comments, the Law Commission concerned It has been decided to give an extension of two weeks for submission of views and suggestions by the stakeholders.
The Law Commission also said that the Commission values the inputs of all stakeholders and aims to create an inclusive environment that encourages active participation. “We encourage all interested parties to make use of this extended deadline to contribute their valuable ideas and expertise,” the commission said.
Explain that the implementation of UCC has been a part of the election manifesto of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center. In such a situation, it is believed that BJP can take a big step on this before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
