Khandwa: The once majestic ancestral house of legendary singer Kishore Kumar, located in Khandwa, has fallen into a state of complete disrepair. This historic residence, spanning 7,200 square feet, was the starting point of Kishore Kumar’s illustrious journey into the Mumbai film industry, where he became one of India’s most celebrated singers. Today, this iconic house stands in ruins, prompting the administration to issue a demolition notice.
The house, which holds immense historical value for Kishore Kumar’s fans, is now covered in dampness, infested with termites and fungus, and blanketed in thick layers of dust. Once a vibrant home filled with the singer’s spirit, it has tragically become a public urinal. Despite its significance, the government appears to be neglecting its deteriorating condition.
A House in Shambles
The ancestral home of Kishore Kumar, the versatile singer and actor who brought fame to Khandwa, is situated in Bombay Bazaar. The rear portion of the house is severely damaged, with the balcony collapsed and the upper floor in a dire state. The administration, recognizing the perilous condition of the structure, has issued a notice for its demolition.

Social worker Sunil Jain shared that Kishore Kumar, the renowned singer, actor, and producer of Hindi cinema, was born on August 4th in Khandwa. Throughout his life, Kishore Kumar cherished his hometown, often proudly declaring, “Kishore Kumar Khandwa Wale” on public platforms. His deep love and connection to his birthplace are rare, making the current state of his ancestral home all the more heartbreaking.
The house, approximately 100 years old, is not just a building but a treasure trove of memories and heritage. Its dilapidated state is a poignant reminder of the need to preserve such historical landmarks, which hold a special place in the hearts of many.
