Peshawar: A minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Pakistan urged, postponed his upcoming rally in Peshawar against Prime Minister Imran Khan due to fears of a terrorist attack by a coalition of opposition parties.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is a coalition of 11 opposition parties that was formed on September 20. The coalition has launched a three-phase anti-government movement under an “action plan” to oust the Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The PDM had earlier held rallies in Gujranwala, Karachi and Quetta and plans to hold its next demonstration in Peshawar on November 22. The province’s Labor and Culture Minister Shaukat Yousafzai has urged the coalition to postpone the rally due to security threats. PDM leaders ignored the Labor Minister’s request and did not comment on it.
Political analysts believe that Yousafzai is not tall enough to ask opposition leaders to postpone the rally. The opposition coalition has alleged that the army rigged the elections two years ago to bring Khan to power. Pakistan’s military has denied interfering in politics. Khan, meanwhile, denied that the army helped him win the election.
