New Delhi: Kenichi Ayukawa, MD, and CEO of the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has been elected president of the auto industry body SIAM. Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body of the auto industry, said on Friday that its members have chosen Ayukawa as the new president. His term will be two years. Ayukawa has been the MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki since 2013. He will replace Rajan Vadhera, Senior Advisor, Mahindra & Mahindra. The new office-bearers were elected at the SIAM annual general meeting on Friday.
The new officers of SIAM were elected on Friday in the Executive Committee meeting after the annual general meeting (AGM) of the organization. SIAM selected Vipin Sondhi, MD and CEO of Ashok Leyland as its new Vice President at the same meeting. The industry association said Vinod Agarwal, MD and CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicle Limited (VECV), will continue to be the Treasurer of SIAM.
Maruti Suzuki sales rise
Maruti Suzuki India reported an increase of 1,24,624 units on Tuesday, with a 17.1 percent increase in sales in August. MSI said in a statement that the company had sold 1,06,413 units in August last year. Domestic sales increased by 20.2 percent to 1,16,704 units as compared to last year, as against 97,061 units in August 2019.
Mini cars sale increased so much
Sales of mini cars like Alto and WagonR (Alto, Wag-nor) were 19,709 units as compared to 10,123 units in the same month last year, which was 94.7 percent. Sales of models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire increased by 14.2 percent to 61,956 units as compared to 54,274 cars in August last year.
