New Delhi: Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the national president of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, a Rajput outfit, was shot dead by three assailants at his residence in Jaipur on Tuesday, December 6, 2023. The incident took place around 11 am when the attackers entered his house posing as visitors and opened fire at him after a brief conversation. Gogamedi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The police have recovered four empty cartridges from the spot and launched a manhunt for the culprits.
The motive behind the murder is suspected to be a gang rivalry, as gangster Rohit Godara, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the killing. Godara posted a message on social media, saying that he had ordered the murder of Gogamedi, as he was allegedly siding with his enemies. He also warned his rivals to be ready for their death and said that he would meet them soon.
Gurpatwant Singh Gogamedi was a prominent leader of the Rajput community and the head of the Karni Sena, which had protested against the release of the controversial film Padmaavat in 2018. He was also involved in several other issues related to Rajput pride and honor. He had recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was expected to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan.
Rohit Godara is a notorious gangster and a close aide of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in a jail in Punjab. Godara is a native of Bikaner and is wanted in 32 cases of murder, extortion, kidnapping, and other crimes. He is currently believed to be in Canada and has been evading arrest by using fake passports and identities. He is also accused of killing Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022. The Interpol has issued a red corner notice against him.
