Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said his government will issue an order to implement the five ‘guarantees’ his party had promised ahead of the elections. Siddaramaiah said his government would govern according to the expectations of the people of Karnataka.
Shortly after being sworn in as chief minister, Siddaramaiah said, “We will provide the kind of administration that people have expected from us.” Five guarantees will be passed in the cabinet meeting and an order will be issued today to implement them.
Congress has promised to implement ‘five guarantees’ on the first day after coming to power in Karnataka. These promises include 200 units of free electricity to all households (Griha Jyoti), Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to every female head of the household (Griha Lakshmi), 10 kilograms of free rice (Anna Bhagya) to each member of a Below Poverty Line (BPL) household, and Rs. ), Rs 3,000 per month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for two years to unemployed diploma holders (in the 18-25 age group) (Yuva Nidhi) and free travel for women in public transport buses (Shakti). Thanking the people, he said that without their blessings the Congress could not have come to power.
Giving credit for the party’s victory in the May 10 assembly elections to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he said, “The election campaign started with Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. I thank all the leaders who campaigned for the Congress along with Rahul and Priyanka (Gandhi Vadra). Apart from them, litterateurs and various organizations also supported us.
The Chief Minister said that all other promises made in the manifesto of the party would be fulfilled in the next five years. He said, we have fulfilled our promises in the past as well and we will do the same in the future.
