Mumbai: A woman has filed a complaint of rape against Sajjan Jindal, the Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group, one of the largest steel conglomerates in India. The woman alleged that Jindal raped her in his penthouse in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, on January 24, 2022. She said that she had met Jindal in Dubai in October 2021 for some property deals and he had tried to force himself on her several times since then.
The woman said that she had approached the police with her complaint in February 2023, but they did not register an FIR. She said that some of Jindal’s associates had also contacted her and asked her to settle the matter and withdraw the complaint. She said that she had no option but to move the Bombay High Court, which directed the police to register an FIR against Jindal on December 12, 2023.
The police registered the FIR on December 13, 2023, and booked Jindal under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (rape) and 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). The police said that they were conducting a thorough investigation and following all the legal procedures. They denied any delay or negligence in handling the case.

Jindal, who is one of the richest businessmen in India, has not issued any statement on the allegations so far. He heads the JSW Group, which has interests in steel, energy, cement, infrastructure, and sports. He is also the president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), a leading trade body.
