Tehran: Just after US President Joe Biden’s visit to the Gulf countries, Iran has claimed that it now has the capability to make a nuclear bomb. Kamal Kharaji, the senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that now our country has technically acquired the power to make nuclear bombs. Iran’s announcement is considered a big warning to Western countries and Israel, who have vowed to stop it from acquiring nuclear weapons at any cost.
The threat comes at a time when Biden has completed his visit to Israel and Saudi Arabia a day earlier. During this, he vowed with the Israeli leaders that both countries would stop Iran from getting the atomic bomb. Kamal Kharaji also said in a conversation with Al Jazeera that the Iranian administration has not yet decided whether to make an atomic bomb. Analysts say that Iran’s desire to build a nuclear bomb is rare in itself.
‘We can easily make enriched uranium’
Iran has been saying so far that it does not want to make a nuclear bomb. Kharaji said, “In the last few days, we have been able to enrich uranium up to 60 percent. Now we can easily make 90 percent enriched uranium.
He also said that Iran has the technical capability to make a nuclear bomb, but no decision has been taken by Iran to make it yet. Iran is currently enriching uranium by 60 percent, which is 3.67 percent more than the nuclear deal signed in 2015.
Experts say that 90 percent of the uranium needs to be enriched to make an atomic bomb. Earlier in the year 2018, then US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal. Under this deal, a limit was set on Iran’s uranium enrichment, and in return, Iran was given economic relief.
After the US imposed tough sanctions, now Iran has started violating the terms of the agreement. Earlier last year, Iran’s intelligence minister said that Western pressure could compel Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.
