Tehran: In Iran’s Kurdish province, a minibus skidded off a road and fell into a gorge, killing 16 people and injuring 12 others. According to the news of Iran’s state television channel, the accident happened on Thursday afternoon in the Kurdish province of the Kordestan region.
According to the news, 12 people who were injured in the accident have been admitted to Sanandaj city hospital. The country’s emergency organization has deployed six ambulances, apart from a helicopter and an ambulance bus, for rescue operations. Officials said the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained and investigation is underway.
The road safety situation in Iran is very poor and about 17,000 people die in road accidents every year.
