This is the second exercise since the United Nations imposed a decade-long arms embargo on Iran. Under the ban, Iran is barred from buying weapons such as tanks and fighter jets from abroad. The ban expires in October. It is reported that Iran is interested in buying new fighter jets.

He still owns the American F-14 Tomcats, as well as the F-4S and F-5S, which predate the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Despite US objections, sanctions on Iran ended under the landmark 2015 nuclear deal. This agreement was made between Iran and the world powers. President Donald Trump has unilaterally separated the United States from this agreement.
