Violent protesters in Chile set the church on fire

Santiago: During a protest in Santiago, Chile last year, 30 people were killed and thousands more were killed. Chileans gathered in Central Square to commemorate the anniversary and were protesting peacefully. However, as night fell, the protesters started rioting and engaged in looting. Protesters turned violent and set fire to a church. Police fired tear gas shells to contain the violence. The angry mob also threatened the mayor of the Communist Party earlier in the day.

Rallies erupted across the city
Chileans gathered during the day and rallied throughout the city. The number of people in the demonstration increased significantly in the evening. Protesters held rainbow-colored home-made banners stating that there would be a referendum next Sunday to end the dictatorship-era constitution. This demand was also prominently raised during the demonstrations in the year 2019.

Demonstrations began peacefully and on a large scale but gradually the protesters became violent. They robbed the supermarket. Protesters also clashed with police. Santiago’s home minister, Victor Perez, praised the rally, which began in the morning. He said that the peaceful rally exploded late at night and everything went out of control. He appealed to Chileans to vote in favor of a referendum on the constitution on October 25. “Those who carry out these acts of violence do not want Chile to solve our problems in a democratic way,” he said.
