Pakistan will reopen Kartarpur corridor from September, Covid protocol will be necessary

Islamabad: Amid the effort to tackle the fourth wave of COVID-19, Pakistan has decided to allow Sikh pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur from next month. The decision to open the Kartarpur Gurdwara was taken by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Saturday as September 22 marks the death anniversary of Sikh sect founder Guru Nanak Dev.

According to the news of Dawn newspaper, it was decided in the meeting of NCOC that following the rules of prevention from Covid-19, Sikh pilgrims will be allowed to visit Kartarpur from next month. Significantly, due to the delta type of coronavirus, India was placed in the ‘C’ category between 22 May and 12 August, and people coming from there needed special clearance.

Now, people have been allowed to enter Pakistan by showing the certificate of both the doses of the vaccine and the report of the RT-PCR test done within the last 72 hours. Apart from this, rapid antigen testing will also be done at airports and if the infection is confirmed, the passenger will not be allowed to enter Pakistan. A maximum of 300 people is allowed to gather together in the Darbar Sahib. According to the data released by the Ministry of National Health Services, 3,842 new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in the last 24 hours, after which the total cases increased to 11,23,812.
