Officials in Mauritius have arrested the Indian captain of a Japanese vessel (Japanese Vessel) that was trapped in shallow waters near Mauritius and recovered a thousand tons of oil from it on the protected coast of the Indian Ocean. But it had spread. Police Inspector Sivo Koothane said on Tuesday that Sunil Kumar Nandeshwar, the Indian captain of a vessel named MK Vakashio, has been booked and placed in custody for “endangering safe shipping”.

He said that the hearing on Nandeshwar’s bail is scheduled next week.
He said that a case has also been registered against another officer of the vessel and he is in custody. Koothen said, “We are doing a full investigation and questioning the crew members.”
Vakasio vessel was broken after colliding with coral reef
The Vakashio vessel collided with the coral reef in shallow water on 25 July and after suffering waves for several days, the vessel cracked, causing oil to leak from it on 6 August. A thousand tons of oil leaked from the damaged vessel which contaminated the water and marine environment of Maheborg Bay. Environmentalists have warned that damage to coral reefs will not be compensated.
Vakashio was to remain at least a hundred miles from the coast but was hit by shallow water rocks only one mile from the island. The vessel belongs to the Nagashiki Company, which is investigating why the ship has deviated from the direction. The company has sent experts to the scene for investigation. The government of Mauritius is demanding compensation from the company.
