Los Angeles: Former Miss Ukraine Veronika Diduschenko has told the poignant story of her seven-year-old son leaving Kyiv after the Russian attack on her homeland. He has also appealed to different countries of the world to provide additional weapons and other military equipment to the people of their country to deal with Russian attacks. Veronica won the crown of Miss Ukraine in the year 2018. He said that he and his son woke up to the sound of airstrikes and explosions sirens on the first day of the Russian offensive. With this, both of them joined the crowd of thousands of people who came out on the streets, who were trying to escape from Ukraine.

“There was no place on my trip to the Ukrainian border that didn’t sound like sirens, where rockets didn’t sound or bombs went off,” Veronica said. The former Miss Ukraine told her story at a news conference held at the Los Angeles office of US Attorney Gloria Allred, who fights for women’s rights. During this, Gloria told that she had been friends with Veronica only a few months ago.

According to the US attorney, Veronica and her son had somehow escaped from Ukraine to Moldova and then entered Geneva, Switzerland, while traveling to other European countries. Veronica said she had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave her son in Geneva and travel to America so that he could hold a news conference with Gloria.

Veronica, dressed in a blue-yellow outfit to match the Ukrainian flag, said she and Gloria decided it was important to bring to the fore the ground situation in their homeland on International Women’s Day. Veronica said, “Currently, millions of Ukrainian children and their mothers who take refuge in the country’s subway stations and anti-bomb stations, tremble at every sound. What is even sadder is that some women are giving birth to children in these shelters under such circumstances.”

According to the former Miss Ukraine, she will return to Geneva this weekend as her request to obtain a US visa for her son has been rejected. Speaking at the news conference, Gloria expressed hope that the Biden administration will ease visa rules in the coming days to allow more Ukrainians to come to the US.

At the same time, Veronica said that the Ukrainians are committed to defending their country, but they need additional weapons and other sans equipment. The former Miss Ukraine said, “Ukrainians have the courage to defend their land and homes, but they are in dire need of additional arms and ammunition to deter continued attacks from the east and north. We will continue to fight for ourselves and your freedom.”
