ISLAMABAD: A major border road between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been closed for trade and transit following clashes between security forces from both sides, a local Pakistani official said on Monday. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Abdul Hamid Zahari, Deputy Commissioner of Chapman city bordering the Afghan district of Spin Boldak, told that a day ago it was closed after a long exchange of fire between security forces from both sides. Zehri further said that the firing from both sides continued till late at night. He said trade and border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan were suspended in Chapman.
The clash between two armies
A spokesman for the Taliban administration’s interior ministry said there was a clash between border forces from both sides. He said it was due to a “misunderstanding” and the incident was being investigated. At the same time, a spokesperson of the media wing of the Pakistan Army said that they are looking into the situation as to what led to the incident.
Afghani shot at pak security force jawan
Zehri said the conflict started when a man coming from Afghanistan from across the border shot a member of the Pakistani security force, killing him and injuring others. The total number of casualties on both sides was not immediately clear. It is feared that many soldiers of the Pakistan Army have been killed in this clash. After the clash, locals, and officials said that hundreds of trucks laden with goods were waiting on both sides. According to the report, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, there have been several clashes between Taliban fighters and Pakistani security forces, while Afghan terrorists have attacked Pakistani forces several times.
Cause of border dispute clash
Pakistan has called on the Taliban to ensure that it fulfills its promise that it will not harbor international terrorists. The Taliban has been refusing to give asylum to the terrorists. Also, border disputes have been a matter of dispute between neighbors for decades. The Taliban have made dozens of attempts to block Pakistan’s plans to fence the 2,600 km border, often leading to conflict between the two countries.
