Washington: The US has announced new sanctions on Russia due to the attack on Ukraine. The sanctions include barring Western countries from advertising Russia’s three largest television stations, as well as barring US accounting and consulting companies from providing services to any Russian national.
The US has banned many items, including wood products, industrial engines, boilers, and bulldozers, from Moscow, expanding the scope of sanctions on Russia’s industrial areas.
The US says that seven major industrial powers have committed to phase out or restrict imports of Russian oil.
Meanwhile, Jill Biden, wife of US President Joe Biden, suddenly arrived in western Ukraine on Sunday. Here he met Olena Zelensky, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Jill told Olenna, ‘I wanted to come here on Mother’s Day. I felt that the people of Ukraine should show that the people of America stand with them. The two met at a school located in a village in Slovakia, bordering Ukraine. Both sat in a small class and talked to each other. Jill stayed in Ukraine for two hours.
Olenna thanked Jill for this bold move and said that we can understand the importance of America’s First Lady coming here during the war. She has come here at a time when there are daily military attacks.
Earlier in March, during a visit to Poland, Joe Biden said he was disappointed that he could not go to Ukraine to see the situation with his own eyes, which he was not allowed to do because of security reasons. Recently the White House said that the President wants to go to Ukraine, but at the moment there are no plans.
