Beijing: In the world’s most populous China, 30 million youths are going for marriage, but due to a lack of girls, they are not getting married. The number of unmarried men in the country is equal to the total population of some countries. Let us know that a census held once in ten years in China shows that there are about 3 crore unmarried men in the country. The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that China has long prioritized male infants. Experts say that despite the slight increase in the number of girls in the new census figures, the issue of the gender gap in China does not appear to be resolved soon.

According to the seventh National Population Census of China by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), out of 1.2 million children born last year, there were 111.3 boys for every 100 girls. In 2010, the ratio was 118.1 to 100. Professor Stuart Gieten-Basten explains that Chinese families want sons rather than daughters. He further states that generally in China, men marry women much younger than their age, but as the population grows, so do more men, which worsens the situation. She goes. Another professor, Björn Alperman, warned that by the time the children are born to be married, there will be a huge shortage of potential brides. He said, “Out of these 1.2 crore children born last year, 6 lakh boys will not be able to find a partner of their own age when they grow up.”

Jiang Quanbao, a professor of demography, said that China’s one-child policy, implemented in 1979 and withdrawn in 2016, increased the practice of gender-selective abortions in favor of boys. Meanwhile, the SCMP cited NBS as stating that China’s fertility rate was 1.3 children per woman, much lower than the 2.1 required to maintain a stable population.

Highlighting that lower-class men face the most difficulty in finding a bride, Cae Yong, an associate professor of social demography, warned that without marriage, they would face “poor physical and psychological health” have to do it. He said it would take some time to change social attitudes to improve gender differences. China’s population growth has been slow for decades due to rising incomes and a child policy.
