New Delhi: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed vehicle manufacturers to inform consumers about the sound level of vehicles at the time of sale. NGT says that noise pollution is a serious threat to people’s health. It directed the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to notify noise emission standards for vehicles at the manufacturing level and thereafter to the authorities concerned under section 20 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 to implement the standards. Issue necessary guidelines.
The NGT said that consumers and public authorities are aware of the noise pollution caused by the vehicles, which may affect the purchasing decisions. The NGT said, “We believe that vehicle manufacturers should provide information about the sound level of vehicles at the time of sale and in technical promotional material. They should provide information to consumers about the vehicle’s sound emissions. “
A bench of Justice Shiv Kumar Singh and Justice Siddhant Das also said that only vehicles with valid Pollution Control Control Certificate (PUC) issued by the authorized agency are allowed to ply in Maharashtra to prevent air pollution caused by the vehicles. . The bench said, “We want to emphasize the fact that noise levels are increasing in urban areas in general, and this is a serious threat to the health of children and old people in particular.”
