Indore: Another achievement has come in the account of Indore, which has been declared the cleanest city in the country five times. President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the National Water Award on Indore on March 29 at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. Indore was the best district in the West Zone in the third National Water Award-2020. In January this year, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had announced these awards. In the West Zone, the Vadodara district of Gujarat and the Banswara district of Rajasthan have been jointly selected for the second position. Member of Parliament from Indore Shankar Lalwani will receive this award.
This award has been given in the year 2020 for the outstanding works of water conservation, protection of water sources, and raising the groundwater level by rainwater harvesting. This includes checking dams in the catchment area of Kanad and Gambhir rivers in Indore district, construction of farm ponds in villages and contour trenches on hills, plantation done under MGNREGA, drain taping in the municipal area, sewage treatment works.
Indore met many parameters – Collector Manish Singh said that the survey of the district was done by the Central Groundwater team for the work being done in the field of water conservation. In this, Indore came true on many parameters. The components like water conservation, water recycling, sewerage system management, etc. were observed by the team.
Survey team praised – During the survey, the team appreciated the taping of all sewerage plants by Indore Municipal Corporation, the release of residual sewage from residential and commercial establishments into the environment only after treatment, reuse of wastewater, etc. activities were appreciated. It was found in the survey that rooftop water recharging units have been installed in 16,000 private establishments in Indore. Similarly, water recharging units were installed in 1500 government offices. The change in water level was also assessed by the team in rural areas through the construction of farm ponds, check dams and water conservation measures.
