Washington: A top Senator of the Republican Party said that Indian citizens had to wait long to get a permanent resident certificate or green card. He also appealed to his senator colleagues to launch a legislative proposal to diagnose the problem. The ‘Green Card’ is officially called the Permanent Residence Card. Migrants in the US are given this document as a proof that they are privileged to live there permanently. Senator Mike Lee said Wednesday that the current green card policy owes nothing to children of immigrants whose parents’ (who have died) green card applications were eventually rejected because they did not have a job.

Lee said in the senator, “Anyone coming from India right now will take 195 years to get an EB-3 green card.” In the 2019 fiscal year, 9008 in Category 1 (EB1), 2908 in Category 2 (EB2) and 5083 in Category 3 (EB3) Indian citizens were given green cards. EB1-3 is a separate category of employment based green card. Senator Deak Durbin said, “The green card is very important for many people working on temporary working visas here. The backlog (pending cases) puts families in danger of losing their immigration status because they get this green card after waiting for several years after the backlog is over. ” “Our bipartisan agreement will add significant reforms to immigrant employees and their family members who are stuck in the backlog, which is not in the original bill,” he said. They will now be able to change jobs and travel without losing the status of immigrant. Children of immigrant employees will also be provided protection so that they are not deported. ”
