New Delhi: The start of winning medals by Indian athletes in the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday continued on Monday as well. Female shooter Avani Lekhara targeted Gold. Avani equaled the world record by securing 249.6 points in the Class SH1 final of women’s 10m air rifle and secured the first position. He entered the finals by finishing 7th in the qualification round. This is also the country’s first gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.

Avani is the first female athlete from India to win Olympic or Paralympic gold. Prior to him, PV Sindhu and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu had won silver. She is only the fourth Indian player to win gold in the Paralympics. The first gold was won by Murlikant Petkar in the 1972 Paralympics.
