
Mumbai: The Indian Navy launched the fifth Scorpion class submarine ‘Wazir’ at the Mazgaon dock in Mumbai. Minister of State for Defense Shripad Naik launched the submarine via video conference. The Wazir submarine is part of the six Calvary class submarines being built in India. This submarine has been designed by French Marine Defense and Energy Company DCNS and is being built under Indian Navy Project-75.

INS Calvary was the first submarine in the Scorpion category to be launched in 2017, followed by the Khanderi, Karanj and Vela submarines. The official said that these submarines are capable of gathering intelligence, laying landmines at sea and surveillance in the area as well as being effective in anti-submarine warfare on the surface.
