New Delhi: Indians have ordered 33 million plates of idlis from Swiggy in the last year. The platform that supplies food on ordering through the app gave this information on Thursday on the occasion of World Idli Day. The company said that a user from Hyderabad has ordered idlis worth Rs 6 lakh in the last 12 months.
This analysis by Swiggy is based on data from March 30, 2022, to March 25, 2023. This shows the popularity of this South Indian dish in the country. The top three cities in terms of idli popularity were Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. It was followed by Mumbai, Coimbatore, Pune, Visakhapatnam, Delhi, Kolkata, and Kochi.
The analysis also revealed that the most popular time to order idlis is between 8 am to 10 am. However, customers from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Mumbai ordered idlis during the night as well. Talking about the varieties, the plain idli is the most popular of all the cities. Rava idli is more popular in Bangalore than in any other city.
