Who was Saint Ramanujacharya?
Vaishnava saint Ramanujacharya was born in 1017 in Tamil Nadu. He was the originator of the Vichitadvaita Vedanta. He took initiation from Alwar Yamunacharya in Kanchi. He propagated Vedanta and Vaishnavism by roaming all over India. In addition to Vedanta, Ramanujacharya based his ideas on the philosophy of devotion from the mystic and devotional alwar saints of the seventh-tenth century, the Pancharatra tradition of the south.
According to Ramanuja, devotion does not mean worship or recitation or kirtan-bhajan, but to meditate or pray to God. From a social perspective, Ramanujacharya has considered devotion to be possible for all, irrespective of caste and class. In 1137 AD, he became Brahmin.
