New Delhi: The Indian economy, already struggling with economic slowdown, has been badly shaken in the midst of the Corona crisis. The situation is such that the central government is constantly working on a plan to sell its stake in government undertakings (PSUs). In this sequence, on 27 July 2020, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had made an important announcement, stating that the central government has decided to privatize 23 public sector companies. It has also got the green signal from the cabinet.

The percentage of stake sold will be determined according to the market
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not say during the announcement that what are the 23 government companies that are under the purview of privatization. Now in the application made under the Right to Information (RTI), it has come to know that the government is selling its stake in not 26, but 26 public sector companies. The names of these companies were also asked in the RTI application. In response, along with the names of all 26 companies, it has also been told that the percentage of stake sold will be decided according to the market.

No information was found regarding privatization of UCO Bank

In the RTI, questions were asked about the inclusion of UCO Bank in the privatization list. It has been said that no information about this is available. Sitharaman had told some time ago that under the Self-Reliant India Package, the Central Government has decided to open all sectors to the private sector. Also, he said that the final decision on the policy of privatization for different sectors has not yet been done.
